Your Weekend in the North

The North of Iceland is one of the most varied landscapes you can think of. You will have a great experience here, surrounded by volcanoes, geothermal springs, black beaches, waterfalls, whales and Eurovision atmosphere!

FRIDAY – Arrival in Akureyri

We welcome you at the airport in Akureryi and bring you to Husavík. On the way, we stop at Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods, one of the most fascinating waterfalls in Iceland. Once in Husavík, you can relax at Geosea, very beautiful outdoor bath located on the hill, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the bay.

SATURDAY –Husavík our hometown

Today you enjoy a full immersion in our amazing town. You start in the morning with the classic Whale Watching tour, because Húsavík is the whale capital of Europe, so this is a must. After that, you visit the Whale Museum, unique in all Europe, to learn why the whales are gentle people. You then have lunch and relax in one of the restaurants and cafes. In the early afternoon, you join our Eurovision – The Story of Fire Saga Walking Tour, where our local guide shows you the locations of the movie and tell you about the memorable days of shootings and the performance of Molly Sandén at the harbour, for the 93rd Oscars Academy Awards. The walking tour ends at Jaja Ding Dong bar, where a drink is included and where you can make an offer to the elves. Before dinner you can also visit the Eurovision Song Contest Exhibition.

SUNDAY –Mývatn day tour

We start the day by going to the amazing waterfall of Dettifoss, a true power of nature. Then, we head to lake Mývatn and spend the day exploring the wonders of its surrounding area. First of all, we reach Krafla, geothermal area where one of Iceland’s volcanoes is located. After visiting the crater Víti, and viewing Leirhnjúkur and the newest lava nearby, we head back to Hverarönd (or Hverir) by Námafjall: an area of ever-changing hot springs. From here we go to the unique Grjótagjá, ensconced deep in the rocky rift formed by the two separating tectonic plates, and Dimmuborgir, an area of randomly strewn lava rocks and cliffs. We keep on around lake Mývatn, with selected stops, like Kálfastrandarvogur, featuring lava rocks, and Skútustadagígar, craters that were formed by gas explosions when boiling lava flowed over the wetlands. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Akureyri, where you spend the night.
