ITINERARY

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN ICELAND AND REYKJAVÍK

Arrival in Keflavík and transfer to Reykjavík in shared shuttle. Depending on the time of arrival, people can start visiting some of the most representative places. Among these, the enchanting lake of Tjörnin and the Harpa, iconic glass building by the sea. We can’t miss a visit to the majestic Hallgrímskirkja. Moreover, Reykjavík is a perfect city to stroll around and it’s very nice to get shelter in one of the historic cafes, to get warm up with a kaffi or a kókó. Overnight in the centre.

DAY 2 – THE MAGIC SNÆFELLSNES – Guided Tour

In the mornign, meeting with the guide and start of the road trip. The main attraction of the day is the iconic mountain Kirkjufell, north of Snæfellsnes peninsula. Depending on weather conditions, we will explore all the south coast, around the glacier, or we will directly reach Kirkjufell from the main road, with a de-tour in Reykholt valley, where we can visit two underrated waterfalls, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. We will then try to hunt northern lights at the feet of Kirkjufell (fingers crossed!). Overnight in Grundarfjörður area.

DAY 3 – STYKKISHÓLMUR AND PINGVELLIR – Guided Tour

Before leaving Snæfellsnes peninsula, we stop in Stykkishólmur, which has a very nice harbour and a breathtaking position on the Breiðafjörður, where we can also visit the peculiar Water Library. We then reach the region of the legendary Golden Circle, iniziando con il Parco Nazionale di Þingvellir, where we visit Þingvellir National Park, place of the first parliament, where it’s possible to admire one of the most impressive tectonic plates. Overnight in Geysir area.

DAY 4 – GEYSIR, WATERFALLS AND BLACK BEACHES – Guided Tour

We visit the other attractions of the Golden Circle, starting from Geysir geothermal area, which gave the name to this natural phenomenon, and then Gullfoss, queen of the Icelandic waterfalls with its double jump. We also add the colourful crater of Kerið. Heading sout,h we encounter other waterfalls. The first one is the romantic Seljalandsfoss, where it’s possible to walk all around its jet; the next one is the perfect Skógafoss, in the tiny village of Skógar. Before reaching Vík, from where we can admire the famous black sea stacks that look like giant fingers, we have other stops: the promontory of Dyrhólaey, which gives us amazing views all year around, and the dark beach of Reynisfjara. Proceeding east, we reach the beautiful Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. Overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

DAY 5 – VATNAJÖKULL ICE WORLD – Guided Tour

From Kirkjubæjarklaustur, we easily reach the area of the majestic Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe and third ice sheet in the world. The first stop is Skaftafell National Park, where there are excellent hikes. Depending on weather conditions, we’ll walk a short circular hike towards the elegant waterfall of Svartifoss (5,5km with a soft difference in height). We visit the Diamond beach, where the icebergs meet the sea and glitter on the black sand. At the Jökulsárlón lagoon, we find ice again, but in a different form: here you can see hundreds of icebergs in different shapes, fluctuating and sparkling under the sun or hiding the haze. Overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

DAY 6 – THROUGH THE SOUTH – Guided Tour

On this day, we drive back through part of the Ring Road we have already covered in the past days, which gives us the chance to visit places omitted because of lack of time or adverse weather conditions, or to go back to locations deserving a second visit! Moreover, we make a stop in the melancholic villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri: their two local restaurants compete among each other for the best lobster soup in Iceland. At the end of the day, there is the possibility to bath in the oldest Icelandic outdoor hot spring. We go back to Reykjavík, final destination of the day, where the guide will leave you. Overnight in Reykjavík.

DAY 7 – END OF JOURNEY

Depending on the time of your flight, there might be time to explore what Reykjavík has to offer. Departure towards the airport with a possible stop at the famous Blue Lagoon, to relax before the flight. Return flight.
