We invite you to join our tours in North Iceland to learn new skills and experience living cultural heritage, warm hospitality, unique cuisine, engaging conversations with locals and stunning nature.

Our carefully developed tours take you on a fascinating journey through the world of Icelandic wool and woollens in the North. You can anticipate learning about all aspects of wool, from sheep farming to local handcraft traditions, and gain a deeper appreciation of the effort and craftsmanship that goes into sustainable wool production.

 

 

Colours of Autumn – 8th of September – 17th of September 2024

10 days of immersing yourself in the vibrant autumn colours of the roundup season, the traditional and annual time when farmers collect their sheep from their free range in the mountains.

Spring is in the air – May 2025

10 days of woollen adventures and activities, where you experience the time of the fascinating lambing season when the Icelandic nature is waking up after a long winter.

 

 


Itinerary
– note that there might be some seasonal differences.

Day 1
Are you ready…lets meet in Reykjavik. On the first day, we will meet and talk with a local textile artist, and wonder in a yarn shop or two.
An introduction to a special knitting project, just for you and your first intriguing wool lecture.

Day 2
Onward, as we journey to the North. Lets make a few stops along the way, and learn the unique process of raw wool to beautiful yarn.

Days 3 – 6
Blönduós awaits us as we travel to this charming little town chock full of character. Here you will find friendly people that make textile and wool a part of their everyday life. Next, you will enjoy well planned and informative workshops at the the Icelandic Textile Center and Textile Lab. You will get to try your hand at; spinning, tapestry weaving, embroidery, and/or knitting and tufting. Lastly, you will visit local farmers who will share their experience of seasonal jobs on the farm.
And along the way, of course, some knitting cafes with the locals and enjoying the beautyful senery in Blönduós.

Day 7
Onward to Húsavik, with a visit to a local sheep farmer and a lovely craftswoman. Then you will have the afternoon to explore the quaint town of Akureyi.

Day 8
ME day…Husavik gives the perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful nature of the North or have a relaxing day in this charming town.
You have many options available; take in the geothermal sea water baths, whale watching on the Skjaifandi Bay, or take a tour to Myvatn and Dettifoss. No matter what you choose, it will be grand.
Activities and food not included.

Day 9
Exploration day trip ahead… learn and explore; Gilhagi mini mill where you will see wool spinning in action, delve into leadersheep grade, enjoy conversation and learning with Icelandic wool artists, and vist a unique dyeing studio.

Day 10
Time to fly…domestic flight to Reykavik.

* the program start and end in Reykjavík (city), as arrival and departure times can be different. We can add in service/days for participants, before and after, if someone wish.
